Martin
Luther on music: "...next to the Word of God, the noble art of
music is the greatest treasure in the world."
Special
Music and Worship Events
Each year in Spring and during Advent, the
Music Ministry at Trinity provides a unique worship opportunity which
includes special music. During Lent in 2004, the Senior Choir presented
a traditional Moravian Lovefeast for Lent. The Moravian Church and the
Lutherans share a common heritage. The
"service" is without a sermon and consists of prayer, musical
offerings, and a "meal" of buns and coffee as an expression
of common fellowship of the family in Christ. Special music for this
Lovefeast was a setting of the Passion story by
the German Moravian composer Johann Christian Geisler (1729-1815) accompanied
by a professional string quartet and some talent from our own congregation.
The Advent Vespers in December 2004 featured the music of German composer,
Johann Kuhnau who, in his time, was considered a greater musican than
J.S. Bach. The Senior Choir offered a cantata by Kunhau again accompanied
by strings.
Senior
Choir
The adult choir is open to all those of
high-school age and above. You don't need to read music or have musical
training -- all that is required is a desire to praise God in music
and song! The senior choir provides an inspiring anthem to complement
the day's lessons at the 9am service from September through June. During
the summer, individuals and groups are encouraged to offer solos or
small group anthems, or instrumental music for the service. Rehearsals
are generally one hour on a weeknight. If you can't make rehearsals
or sing every Sunday, you're still encouraged to be part of the choir.
Speak with the Minister of Music about how you can be an active part
of this important ministry.
Senior
Handbell Choir
Ringing handbells is delightful way to make special music to praise
God. Again, no musical training is required ... just a desire to make
music and have fun.
Folk
Choir
Accompanying
themselves on guitars and other folk instruments, our Folk Choir sings
a variety of music including songs of Weston Priory and other traditional
worship sources.
Cherub Choir
Our
tiniest singers learn to praise God with simple songs and
gestures. Several times a year, the Cherub Choir offers their
songs as part of worship. Our older youth teach the cherubs
and lead the choir.
Children's
Choir
Children in Sunday School may participate in group musical activities
to prepare songs for worship, or can participate in our Children's Handbell
Choir. Our annual Christmas Pagent and Christmas Eve Family Service
features songs by the Children's Choirs.
